Prior to joining 286, I was mainingly hiking, bouldering, and walking for exercise. I decided to join 286 because I wanted to be able to pass the physical fitness test for Federal Law Enforcement jobs, which has been my main goal.
My biggest fear before joining 286 was that I would not see gains in performance despite my efforts. This fear has not come true, I have seen real and appreciable gains, and have been pleasantly surprised by the community is full of excellent, friendly people. Everyone without exception is genuinely nice. This has been one of my favorite things about 286!
Since joining, 6 months ago, I can now do multiple pulls, when I was unable to do any prior! Outside of the gym, I have noticed increased physical capabilities, especially with regards to strength. I can hike farther, with a heavier pack, and be less fatigued the next day.
If you are thinking about joining a gym like 286, do it, you have nothing to lose but the time you would have otherwise slept in.
Prior to joining 286, I took boxing & kickboxing classes, which were cardio workouts with bodyweight exercises. I wanted to join 286 because I needed a change, so I tried a class at 286.
I have been wanting to get stronger, and to improve my cardio capacity, without getting injured, and the 286 workouts are definitely helping. The workouts are hard, but in a good way. And the gym is a social place, so you always feel like you’re working out with friends.
My biggest fear before joining 286 was that I had heard that CrossFit was too intense, and that injuries were common. But that is not the case at 286. A lot of attention is paid to making sure exercises are done properly and carefully. Which was a pleasant surprise to me.
There is such a wide variety of exercises and body movements, so each workout is completely different from the day before. Day-by-day and week-by-week I can feel myself getting stronger and more fit!
I recently did a 100 mile backpacking trip that involved going up and down lots of mountains. The workouts at 286 helped prepare me for this trip.
I’m in my late 50s, and I just learned how to do wall handstands! Someday I’m hoping to be able to do handstand pushups.
If you’re thinking about joining, just try a class — it’s only an hour out of your day. The worst thing that can happen is you might have some fun while exercising your body.
“This gym has helped me surpass plateaus I never thought possible, and the team makes showing up easy—best community I’ve ever had the pleasure of being a part of!”
