What does training for general health look like? At CrossFit 286, we define this as training for the demands of YOUR life, not any one else’s. This means doing the training that supports your lifestyle. Your needs and my needs are likely very different, so the training will need to be different. Here is how to train for general health:
First, we need to define your function. What does your average day look like? Are you sitting for long periods of time? Do you have a job that is labor intensive? Do you enjoy hiking, running, or other leisure activities? We need to start by defining those items so we can then begin training the most important areas.
Once we define out function, we need to train it! In general, most people will need some variation of aerobic (cardiovascular) activity, strength activity, and core activity (which falls in the strength realm). The combination of these will provide you the longevity you need to live a long fulfilling life.
What is the highest priority? If you need to. Prioritize your strength, you should bias your training that way. If you need more aerobic activity, you should bias your training that way. What actual movements and intervals go into that will depend on your needs, but in general, starting with your priority will get you fast tracked in the right direction.
If you are training to be the best human you can be, you are likely training for general health. Start with the strategies laid out above and you will be well on your way to a lifetime of health. If you want to get deeper into the weeds what specifically should be included in your training, book an intro and talk with one of our coaches! You can do that here:
