Take a deep breath. Everyday situations arise that require us to make a decision. Often times, when the day is stressful, it can be tempting to blow up at the person or situation. Take a deep breath and try out these stress relief tactics next time you find yourself in a situation that pinches a nerve.
Step one. Breathe. This may seem obvious, but a lot of people forget about it. If something is stressing you out, take deep breath all the way down to the bottom of your belly. This will trigger your body to relax and calm down. Always make sure to breathe full and deep. Bonus points, only inhale and exhale through the nose!
Step two. Close your eyes and visualize. If you are stressing out. Pair your deep breathing with some visualization. Imagine a calming landscape or a place that has special meaning to you. Pairing this with deep breathing will help bring your heart rate down and keep you calm when you feel like losing it.
Step three. Get up and walk away. If you tried the tactics above, but they don’t work, excuse yourself from the situation and go for a short walk. Use the walk to blow off some steam and return to the situation with a clear mind.
