Your brain is hardwired to protect you and ensure your survival. If something threatening pops up, it will trigger a response that will allow you to address the situation and survive (fight or flight). While this mechanism helps. Us survive; it does not always help us thrive. This is what I mean by that:
Fear is essential to ensuring survival, but when we are in a situation that induces fear, we tend to avoid it in the future. Think about the last scary movie you watched. Were you itching to watch it again the next night? Probably not. Our brain is wired to avoid this situation.
One of the biggest fear’s humans have is of the unknown and of change. Change is all about embracing the unknown. When things change, new situations arise. Will we be ready to handle them? We should be able to, but that fear of the unknown will have us seeking a. path that avoids change. Additionally, this fear begins to play into our anxieties. Will we be accepted? Will we be laughed at for trying. Are we crazy for thinking we can do that? And many, many more.
We need to trust ourselves and know that change can bring about amazing things. A caterpillar makes a cocoon not because it wants to become a butterfly, but because it’s instincts want it to seek its fullest potential. It trusts that by going into its cocoon, it will emerge closer to that end goal. And as we all know, when it does emerge, that caterpillar is a beautiful butterfly.
The best way to overcome our fears is to recognize them. Why are you feeling that fear? Chances are it is because you are going to change your life for the better. Your brain doesn’t know that it will be better on the other side, it just knows that it is scared and anxious. When you feel fear setting, breathe, and embrace it. Fear is being triggered because you are about to transform into the best version of yourself.
Having a guide on this journey can help eliminate fear. Being able to lean on someone who knows the path will no doubt help you. If you need a guide, let us know by scheduling an intro, you can do that here:
