Preventive Maintenance

There’s nothing worse than when you spend your hard-earned money on something, and it breaks. Whether it’s your car, your AC unit, or a new device, it sucks when it breaks and has to get repaired or replaced for an absurd amount of money. To avoid that payment, many people do preventive maintenance. Taking their car in to get a tune up, having their AC unit serviced, and downloading software updates. These measures ensure your hard-earned money isn’t being thrown away. The same can be said of the money you spend on the gym or with a personal trainer.

When you are choosing where to work out, you should make sure that your gym or personal trainer has steps in place to prevent injury. You’re spending your hard-earned money to improve your life, and the last thing you want is to start seeing progress, only to get hurt and have to take time off and lose your progress.

That’s where initial assessment and preventive maintenance come into the gym. First and foremost, your gym or personal trainer should be putting you through some kind of assessment to see if there are joints or movements that are in pain during exercises. If anything is identified, they should be tailoring your program to fix those areas. At 286 Performance, we do that with everyone.

The next step is preventive maintenance. Your body and joints may function well now, which is great! We want to make sure that over time, they don’t wear down and cause issues in the long run. Doing proper warmups and cooldowns are an easy way to get preventive maintenance in. Taking it a step further, doing specific strength workouts, like single arm and single leg movements, will help ensure there are no compensations or strength imbalances that can lead to injury. Finally, seeing a chiropractor and/ or a massage therapist can help make sure that your body is remaining in a healthy functioning state.

Preventive maintenance is not sexy stuff, but it is crucial in seeing progress for a lifetime. Don’t’ waste your money by getting injured. Find a gym or a personal trainer that can guide you through preventive maintenance, and you’ll see your longevity drastically increase.
