You have probably at some point wondered if you should take supplements, and if so, what supplements to take. But when we stop to think about it, do we really need to take supplements at all? Here is the answer to the age old question of what supplements to take.
The answer, none if possible! Supplements are just what the name indicates, supplemental items that can be added to your diet if you are not getting enough of some vitamin, mineral, or nutrient. So in theory, if you eat a well rounded diet and get outside in the sun every day, you shouldn’t need any supplements!
Supplements are not a magic cure. As you seek to optimize your immunity, you need to start with exercise and nutrition, get those fundamentals down before looking into supplements. You’ll be amazed at how your body responds to the basics.
When should you start taking supplements? If you can tell me exactly what you eat every day, and if you have upgraded to mostly, if not all “real food,” then you can consider taking supplements. If you don’t have the basics down, supplements will not help you. It would be like putting premium gas in a remote mo-ped, it won’t get you anywhere faster.
If you have a hard time getting in enough food in a day, or if you are deficient in a specific nutrient, vitamin, or mineral, it may be acceptable to take a supplement, but only if you have done everything you can to upgrade your nutrition.
You don’t need to take supplements. Save your money on immunity supplements and instead, spend that money on real food and upgrading your nutrition. Your body and your immunity will thank you for it.
