Whether you are training for your general health or for a specific event, you need to have some goals. Without a goal, how do you know if you succeeded? How do you know what steps you need to take to reach your desired outcome? Let’s dive a little deeper on how to properly set and reach a goal.
The process for setting goals is pretty simple. In fact, it’s so simple many people overlook it entirely. So, what is it?
Start by defining what your end goal is. Next, define where you are currently. You have now defined both ends of the journey. All that’s left is to fill in the middle. To do that define what is halfway between where you are now and what your end goal is. For example, your goal is to make a million dollars, halfway would be $500,000. Once you have halfway defined, you need to define what is halfway between where you are and your halfway point. Using the same example, you’re now looking at $250,000. Continue this process, defining halfway between where you are and the next goal until you have reach an easily attainable micro goal. If you have $0 and want $1,000,000, your likely first goal is to make $1.
Setting up these micro goals will give you something realistic you can achieve and will keep you motivated. The journey may take a a lifetime, but it will be well worth it at the end, so you need to stay engaged. Micro goals will do that.
