The weekend is most people’s favorite part of the week. No work, just relaxing, but often times, this causes people to fall off their disciplined exercise and nutrition plans. It is incredibly important to maintain your discipline in order to see long term success. However, you don’t have to completely restrict yourself and can still enjoy your weekend while still maintain your discipline! Here are our favorite strategies for staying on your game over the weekend.
Drink plenty of water. First, make sure you are drinking plenty of water over the weekend. It can be very easy to forget about this due to all the relaxing. Staying hydrated over the weekend will help you Feel and function better over the weekend and will also allow you to start the next feeling great! It will also make any hangovers much more manageable!
Eat a fruit or vegetable each meal. Over the weekend, we like to enjoy ourselves. Often, we eat out, go to parties, hang out with friends, etc. All this stuff is 100% okay! A useful goal is to eat a fruit or vegetable with each meal. This will ensure you get your micronutrients in and will also help you feel fuller so you don’t over eat! Imagine enjoying a nice meal out with friends without sabotaging your goals! That’s what this will do!
Sleep in. The week days get busy and hectic and make getting enough good quality sleep incredibly hard. Take advantage of the weekend to stay in bed a little longer and enjoy some extra sleep! Sleep is a powerful thing for your health and the weekend is a fantastic opportunity to catch up on it! If you want your body to feel amazing and your immune system to be full strength when the busy workweek returns, sleep in on the weekends!
Do something outdoors. All week you were probably cooped up indoors, not moving much, and certainly not seeing much sunshine. Use some of that extra free time on the weekend to get outside and move around! Go for a walk around the neighborhood, explore a new part of town, go for a hike, mow the lawn, do something outside! You will get to burn some extra calories while also soaking up some vitamin D in the process!
Treat yourself. Most importantly, enjoy your weekend! This is a time to recharge and relax, if you miss a workout or have a subpar meal, don’t beat yourself up over it! Try to stick to the steps above, but if you miss one, it’s not the end of the world. One meal won’t kill you!
